This region has experienced within the past 10 years a remarkable touristic boom and today Chiclana represents one of the most popular holiday resorts in the south of Andalusia. The coast is not yet built up or over-populated.
More than 700 years of city history, some of the most beautiful beaches on the coast and an a grown up infrastructure are making Chiclana a privileged holidays resort. The beach "Sancti Petri" with its yacht port and the 8 km long beach "La Barrosa" are about 6 km away from the city center.
The mix of typical Andalusian culture with great accommodation offers in a comfortable hotel, apartment or holiday house, the local wine (sherry, and Moscatel Fino) and the world-famous golf courses in the region are just some of the reasons why to visit Chiclana.
Before tourism arrived, Chiclana was living from fishing and wine cultivation at the end of the "Ruta del vino" (wine route) connecting all cities in the sherry triangle.
Chiclana is located 25km south of Cadiz. Popular neighboring cities are Conil de la Frontera, a former fishing village, and Vejer de la Frontera, one of the white villages.

Chiclana attracts especially in the summer many young, mostly Spanish travelers, not only because of the fabulous beaches, but also because of the exuberant nightlife of this city.
The evening program begins in the beach bars, which operate until late into the night. Later there are several clubs to dance the rest of the night away.
On the beach promenade of Playa Barrosa during the day there is the most movement. Here you will find bars and cafes with a good atmosphere until the late evening.

The selection of good restaurants in Chiclana is great. Besides the typical bodegas in the city centre, there are some of the best addresses to be found directly on the beach promenade of Playa Barrosa.
Fresh fish of the region is always a good choice, but also the ham specialties, beef from Andalusia and the local vegetables should be tried.
The wine lists of restaurants in Chiclana are sumptuous and, as a city at the end of the wine route, of course comes up with some excellent local wines. For dessert we recommend a Moscatel or the fine sherry - the Fino.

Beaches of Chiclana
Playa La Barrosa
The Playa La Barrosa is about 6km away from the city Chiclana. It is 7km long and up to 60m wide, and is one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain. La Barrosa was awarded with the "blue flag", an award for outstanding environmental management and cleanliness of the water and sand.
In July and August this beach is the most visited of this coast, but because of its size the amount of visitors distributes well. Adjacent to the beach promenade with its many bars and restaurants, there are a lot of the touristic accommodations.

Playa Novo Sancti Petri
The beach of Novo Sancti Petri is the continuation of Playa Barrosa in direction towards Conil de la Frontera. This beach is much less visited and convinces with its purity and naturality. Dunes, pine forests and cork oak trees decorate the landscape.
Very well-maintained bicycle paths run along the beach and connect the entire region of Novo Sancti Petri.

Climate & Weather in Chiclana
While temperatures in the summer at the Andalusian coast are comfortably warm, it may be unbearably hot just 20km further in the country. Seville, for example, is used to have above 40°C every day while on the coast you only feel 25°C.
In winter time it hardly gets any colder than 16°C, except for the nights which could end up being around 10°C. The temperatures also depend on the wind direction: Levante brings warmer air from the land, Poniente brings cool air form the sea.
The average humidity in summer is around 30%, in the winter it is above 50%.
