The white houses of Vejer de la Frontera form a labyrinth of little streets and squares and in its center you find the ruins of an old Moorish castle. The fine, white sand will satisfy even the most demanding tourists. We recommend to use sun protection while sun bathing. The Andalusian sun can cause sun burns within a short period. Those who want to cool down their bodies jump into the Atlantic ocean which in the summer hardly has more than 20°C. In the winter the lowest water temperatures are around 15°C. For water sports it is recommendable to wear a neoprene suit. The sea water is very clean here and currents or strong tides are no danger hazard. Jelly fish or other non-welcome sea animals are not a problem. Playa El Palmar The beach of El Palmar extends over 5km along the coastline, which still isn't built up very much. Some bars and restaurants, 3 little supermarkets, 1 farmacy and some nice holiday houses put together this very small village. Apart from being the best surfing beach in the south of Andalusia, it is also a popular sun bathing beach with a bit of an international flair. The wave season lasts form October til May. There are no stones in the water, apart from the northern end close to the Torre Nueva (the old lighthouse). With stronger swell you shouldn't go swimming here to avoid injuries from the stones. Playa del Pirata The most famous beach in Caños de Meca, 12km from Vejer de la Frontera, is called Playa del Pirata - Pirate beach. Swimming here is free of dangerous currents. Some bars and restaurants can be found at the beach. It is located in the center of Caños de Meca, below the Chiringuito La Jaima, which is situated on a cliff above this beach. Before you drive back to your accommodation, we recommend to have an "apres-beach"-drink in this very attractive place. Climate & weather in Vejer de la FronteraWhile temperatures in the summer at the Andalusian coast are comfortably warm, it may be unbearably hot just 20km further in the country. Seville, for example, is used to have above 40°C every day while on the coast you only feel 25°C. In winter time it hardly gets any colder than 16°C, except for the nights which could end up being around 10°C. The temperatures also depend on the wind direction: Levante brings warmer air from the land, Poniente brings cool air form the sea.
